Deserts (Desiertos) by Hugo Alfredo Hinojosa

Deserts interweaves the stories of illegal immigrants to take a bold look at the violence and poverty along the U.S./Mexico border. Through the stories of a mother and child, undocumented workers, and snipers and preachers, the strength of the human spirit emerges from a struggle for survival.

This translation/adaptation was commissioned and developed at the Lark Play Development Center, New York City, as part of the 2007 US/Mexico Playwright Exchange Program. It was subsequently developed and presented at the 2010 5th Biennial Latino Theatre Festival at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. This publication is a collaboration between NoPassport Press and the Lark.
