“Svich’s RED BIKE is a luminous piece that tackles our common dreams and dangers with magic, poetry, and a sense of both possibility and loneliness. A beautiful work!” — Cristina Garcia (Novelist, Dreaming in Cuban)

“Svich’s RED BIKE is a ride into Trump’s America and the soul of a nation.” — Stephen Wrentmore (Artistic Producer, Lighthouse Poole Centre for the Arts)

“What I admire about Svich’s powerful work is the continual theatrical risks she takes, the poetic layering of too often repressed voices, and the kick in the ass at realism. RED BIKE is a beautiful ride.” — Naomi Wallace (Playwright)

Caridad Svich is the author of over 40 plays including 12 OPHELIAS, ARCHIPELAGO (world premiere, Lighthouse Poole), JARMAN (all this maddening beauty) (Homotopia Festival, LIverpool & Kings College London), IPHIGENIA CRASH LAND FALLS… (developed with Actors Touring Company), CARTHAGE/CARTAGENA (touring with Signdance Collective, funded by Arts Council England), THE BOOTH VARIATIONS (Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh Fringe), THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS (winner of American Theatre Critics Association Primus Prize). On RED BIKE from the playwright:

A colleague asked me why did I want to write RED BIKE? My response was this: “I wanted to place an eleven year old character living in rural America as the agent of the narrative; I wanted that voice to articulate part of the core class struggle we are in, in these divided States, and also to ask this 11 year old to share their dream of a better future.”
